How To Use A Powder Trickler

Blog

Gun aficionados often like to make their own ammunition in order to save money. Making your own ammunition can also ensure that your ammo is the best quality possible. A necessary tool for anyone interested in filling their own shells is a powder trickler. A powder trickler is a tool that is used to reload ammo. A reloading trickler is a simple tool that shakes powder slowly out into your scale, so that it can be measured to precise weights, meaning your ammo is perfectly filled.

There are two basic types of tricklers: electronic and manually-operated. If you are only filling a few cases, a hand-operated trickler is fine. A manually-operated trickler relies on your hand to crank out the powder. Some people prefer the feel of a manual trickler, and it can often deliver a more accurate and neat trickle of powder, allowing you full control. The disadvantage of a hand-operated trickler is that, when filling many cases at once, it can get very tiring.

If you need to fill a lot of cases, then an electronic trickler is probably best for the job. With an electronic trickler, all you need to do is set the weights and press a button to get the right amount for each fill. An electronic trickler is certainly a big time-saver and easier to use than one that is hand-operated. They can also be programmed to remember fills, so you don't need to calibrate them every time you put them to use.

Regardless of what type of trickler you use, the directions are about the same.

First, make sure that your powder trickler is placed on a level and stable surface, far enough away from other objects that you can operate it without a problem.

Second, know how much powder your cases can hold. Then, place a scale under the trickler to measure the correct amount of powder.

Third, when you have everything set up, carefully pour the gun powder into the top of the trickler.

Fourth, if you are using an electronic trickler, there are normally two speeds at which the powder will be shaken out onto the scale; change between the speeds as you need to. If you have a manually-operated trickler, you can control the flow yourself. Fill the scale with the correct amount of powder.

Fifth, when you have the correct amount of powder, a funnel can be used to fill the cases and make sure all the powder gets into the shells.

Voila! You have used your trickler to fill your casing.
